A Quiet Ordinary
C. Tan
How blessed am I,
that Fortune's gentle hand
should lead me unto thee.
For in thy smile
I find a quiet sun,
and in thine arms
a place where I may be.
Thou need'st not speak
a thousand words of love;
for love hath tongues
that silence understands.
A tender touch,
a glance, a gentle deed—
these are the vows
that need no golden bands.
Thy heart is soft,
thy spirit true and kind,
a rarest grace
in this uncertain world.
And fate hath intertwined
my path with thine,
and I am grateful
that our hearts have met.
I love thy quirks,
thy laughter and thy ways,
the thoughtful mind
that sees the world anew;
and every quiet, ordinary day
becomes more beautiful
when spent with you.
No grander vow
need shine before the world;
some loves are truest
when quietly lived.
For this is blessing enough:
your dear heart meets with mine,
and I may rest, for a while,
tucked into you.
If love be fortune,
then I am rich indeed—
for I have found
a gentle soul to treasure.
